Clarification on Sandboxx

Q: What is Sandboxx?
A: The Sandboxx app, which is available on both mobile and web platforms, enables friends and family to send letters, photos, and gift cards to military members in training. Sandboxx operates under contract with Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS). You can learn more at https://www.sandboxx.us/

Q: Is Marine Parents affiliated with Sandboxx?
A: No. MarineParents.com, Inc., is a nonprofit organization. Sandboxx is a for-profit company.

Q: Does my recruit or officer candidate get the electronic letter the next day?
A: No. However, Sandboxx mail is pre-sorted by unit and delivered overnight to the base mailroom via FedEx, complete with tracking to ensure secure and timely delivery. While it may arrive at MCRD in less time, it still goes through the same process and timeline for delivery to your recruit.

Q: How did Sandboxx get my phone number to send a text to me?
A: As part of the MCCS contract, your recruit was introduced to Sandboxx during receiving week and had the option to sign up. This allows them to add family and friends for letter communication and weekly updates, but participation is completely optional for both the recruit and their families.

Q: Does Sandboxx pose a security risk?
A: The Sandboxx Military App ensures online security with encrypted data protection, safeguarding personal information and communications for service members and their families, and it does not sell your information to third parties.

Q: How do they reply to letters I send through the service?
A: The company includes a pre-addressed envelope for your recruit or candidate to write a letter to you. The envelope does NOT include postage. Your recruit will NOT use the app to respond to you; they have no access to electronic communications during OCS or boot camp.

Q: Do I have to use the service? What's the advantage?
A: No, you do not have to use the service. Whether there are advantages for you personally in using the service is up to you to determine.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: About $4 per electronic letter.

Q: Should I send the Sandboxx gift card to my candidate or recruit?
A: The gift cards offered through Sandboxx are MCX gift cards, not Sandboxx-branded cards. They are an excellent way to support your recruit when they visit the exchange, and 100% of the proceeds are reinvested into Marine Corps Community Service (MCCS) programs. These gift cards are fully approved by Headquarters Marine Corps.

Q: Does the organization Marine Parents recommend the service?
A: We take no position either way; whether you use the electronic mail app or not is entirely up to you.

Q: I need more information about using the app. Can you help me?
A: Unfortunately, no. We are not affiliated with the company and do not do support calls. Please get in touch with them directly. https://www.sandboxx.us/

Q: Why don't you allow links to the company to be posted in the group?
A: As a nonprofit organization, we don't link to for-profit entities in our groups or on our websites.
